Each week TABLE volunteers deliver bags of healthy nonperishables and fresh produce (often local/organic) to 800 kids across Orange County. Our nutritionist-reviewed menu includes healthy, culturally-varied foods, and we accommodate allergies or other dietary needs.
TABLE’s bags contain about twenty items each week, including food like oranges, apples, berries, lettuce, broccoli, oatmeal, dry beans, rice, macaroni and cheese, tuna, shelf-stable milk, peanut butter, bread, and more.
How does it work?
TABLE delivers food directly to children’s homes during the school year and over the summer. To effectively and efficiently reach the 800 children we serve, volunteers deliver food Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday every week to an average of 230 children each day, 425 homes each week.
What is included in each bag?
TABLE’s bags contain 50% fresh produce and 50% healthy non-perishables. Each bag includes 10 meals and snacks that vary each week depending on what fresh food is in season and what non-perishables we are able to provide. Some examples of the food that is given to kids include oatmeal, individual cereal, peanut butter, pasta, tomato sauce, canned tuna/chicken, granola bars, and milk or juice. Vegetables and fruits could be baby carrots, apples, oranges, blueberries, sweet potatoes, lettuce, zucchini, and bell peppers.
To better serve our families specific needs, TABLE is piloting a new program called Marketplace to a select group of participating TABLE families. It is a free, fully customizable grocery delivery service designed to give families the opportunity to select what grocery items they would like to receive from TABLE.
Through Marketplace families have more food options including a wider array of fruits and vegetables to choose from, and the ability to select pantry staples such as flour, sugar, and spices.
